What Drives You? Curiosity or Passion?

Defined:

curiosity [ˌkyo͝orēˈäsədē] – a strong desire to know or learn something.
pas·sion | \ ˈpa-shən  \ – a strong feeling of enthusiasm or excitement for something or about doing something.
Is it me or do you think middlescent women are on a head-spinning pursuit to find their passion? We’re encouraged to find our passion. Pursue our passion. Do what we’re passionate about. Follow our passions…and the rest will fall into place.

For starters, what happens when you don’t know or don’t have a passion? Where does that leave you? Or worse yet, how does that leave you feeling? Passion is a TALL ORDER and for many of us, it’s something we may not experience in our lifetime…and that’s okay.

Where is it written that at 40 & 50+ you need to have a passion because if you don’t, you’re behind the eight ball and you need to get your sh** in order and hop on the passion bandwagon before it’s too late. WTF? I’m exhausted just writing this! What if, there was another way to navigate through life to find what makes your heart sing that’s free of the expectations, passion ups and downs and simply encourages you to live curiously.

Personally, I’ve always had an adverse reaction to the word “passion.” I get why we use it, but it’s too super-sized for me. In fact, we’ve heard many of you say comments like “I don’t know what I’m passionate about” or “I haven’t found my passion in life.” Whoa, talk about unwarranted pressure!

Curiosity has served me well and has taken me down many paths. Some good. Some not so good. But in the end, they all were a journey versus a destination. I wasn’t pining to figure things out, I was just on the ride – learning, living, experiencing, taking notes, paying attention to what I liked or didn’t like and then making an informed decision to continue being curious or move on and be curious about something different. No let down. Just “I liked it or didn’t like it.”

Curiosity…

  • is available to everyone at every age.
  • encourages you to explore without boundaries or expectations.
  • is not right or wrong, it’s simply learning about something that piques your interest.
  • helps you figure out what you like, don’t like, and gives you the insights needed to build the life, business, or career you want.
  • keeps life light and fun (we all need more of that in our lives!!).

What do you think? Am I off my rocker or somewhere in the ballpark?
